2007 Vintage
The 2007 vintage of 21 Grams is, without reservation, a blockbuster wine. The growing season was the best the Walla Walla Valley has experienced in over 10 years, characterized by steady warm temperatures throughout the summer, no precipitation and a cool fall. These elements allowed for maximum hang-time and enabled total ripeness and layers of complexity.
The final blend for the 2007 vintage is comprised of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. For the third year in a row, the 37-year-old vines of Cold Creek Vineyard were the clear standout for Cabernet Sauvignon. Other vineyards contributing to the blend were Pepper Bridge, Portteus, Seven Hills, Nostra Terra and Sagemoor. In contrast to the finesse and red fruit profile of the 2006 vintage, the 2007 vintage is explosive. Dark black fruits are layered with tobacco, gravel, pencil shavings and cedar, more reminiscent of the inaugural 2005 vintage. Yet, it is a complete wine in every way—balanced, structured and elegant.
